A Shaker Kitchen for a Grade II Listed Cottage

About the project

Our client had recently moved into a Grade II listed thatched cottage in rural West Berkshire and was keen to create a kitchen that felt right for both the house and the way she wanted to live. The existing space no longer reflected the character of the property or supported day-to-day use, so it was important to get the redesign right.

Planning & Design

We spent time understanding how the kitchen connected to the rest of the home, including the adjoining dining space and views across the garden. Through careful planning, the layout was refined to improve flow, introduce more effective storage and integrate key appliances without overwhelming the room. The design developed gradually, allowing time to explore ideas and resolve the detail properly.

The Result

The finished kitchen now feels calm, balanced and entirely in keeping with the cottage. It works more naturally for everyday living, with improved storage and a clearer layout, while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding space. The result is a kitchen that feels comfortable, considered and right for the home, both now and for the years ahead.
